Laura Mulvey and Sigmond Freud
Laura Mulvey is a British feminist film critic, she is well known for writing her essay on visual pleasure and narrative cinema. Her theory is about spectatorship of film and the male gaze.
The audience are positioned to veiw a film from a males perspective and this leads to women being looked at as objects, they get objectified. Because women are objectified the stereotype of a patriachal society is reinforced and men are seen to be more dominant and powerful then women. as we view things from a males perspective women are seen as giving erotic and voyeristic pleasure to men. She mentions Freud in her theory as his theory is about psychoanalysis which was looked at the human mind and tried to interpret human behaviour, when women are seen as giving different pleasures to men it could cause the man to have anxiety if a phalic or a fetish object is put it the scene with a women as the man would feel castrated and make the women seem like they have power. this also leads to misogyny.
